The Relationship Between Sleep and Pain - Blog Puriya

September 29, 2021

Have you noticed how much worse you feel after a bad night’s sleep?

A little grumpier?
Less focused?
Achy?

It seems as though insomnia is a common occurrence in our culture with the constant stresses in our lives and the endless amounts of media at our fingertips keeping us awake at night.

Not getting enough sleep can affect many areas of our life besides pain, lead to some serious health issues and impair our memory, mood, and ability to learn. It can also decrease our immunity, and negatively affect our weight and metabolism.

Studies have shown that up to 88% of people who have problems sleeping also have a history of chronic pain. Another shocking fact is that a whopping 50% of people with insomnia also have chronic pain.

This one thing has been shown to improve your pain and sleep-meditation & mindfulness.

Sleep tips:

  • Don’t drink caffeine after lunch
  • Stop using your computer 1 hour before bedtime
  • Declutter the bedroom
  • Avoid naps during the day
  • Try yoga or meditation in the evening
  • Take a warm bath
